EPGP

We use an EPGP system for our scheduled raids. This is an addon-automated mechanism that attempts to fairly distribute loot in direct proportion to the effort that you put into raiding.

A player earns EP (effort points) for attendance, killing bosses, and progression wipes. A player incurs GP (gear points) for taking gear. A player's priority for a desired item is determined by EP divided by GP. Every week these values decay slightly to keep them from getting out of control.

Ad-hoc raids, raids that we partially PUG, and raids that are substantially below our progression curve will use free rolls rather than EPGP.

Downloads

You must have the epgp_lootmaster addon installed to participate in loot distribution in our raids. This addon will give you a special dialog when we are rolling on loot with four options: Need, Greed, Supergreed, and Pass.

The epgp addon is required for officers and optional for others. It allows you to see everyone's current EPGP priorities.

Detailed Rules

The rules for rolling on loot are simple.
  • Click Need if you want to incur full GP value for an item you want. An example would be for a significant main set upgrade. You will win the item if you are the highest priority Need roll.
  • Click Greed if you want to incur half GP value for an item you want. An example would be for a side-grade or off-spec item. You will win the item if there are no Need rolls and you are the highest priority Greed roll.
  • Click Supergreed if you want the item but do not want to incur any GP. An example would be a minor piece you only want to take to prevent it from being sharded. You will win the item if there are no Need or Greed rolls and you have the highest addon-generated random roll; priorities are not used.
  • Click Pass if you are not interested.

Gear Competition Issues

Thanks to Blizzard's design certain classes have low competition on their gear. Paladin plate and Elemental Shaman mail are good examples. It is inappropriate for players running these toons to roll Greed or even Supergreed on everything just because they can. Everyone is no the honor system to use EPGP appropriately without attempting to game it.

Alternate Characters

EPGP is tracked by player, not by character. For almost all purposes alternate characters are treated the same as main characters. If you wish to pass on gear on an alt in order to build priority for your main, or vice versa, that is fine. Your EPGP priority is yours to use as you wish.

If you want to roll Greed on everything for an alt to ensure you don't take loot from main characters that is fine, but you must roll Greed consistently. For example, if your alt is an Elemental Shaman, it's not appropriate to use that as an excuse to Greed on all your mail, but then Need on rings and cloaks and other multi-class items. An occasional Need on a huge upgrade would still be OK.

Tier Tokens

Some instances have tokens used for tier pieces. When tier tokens drop in progression raids they will always incur their full GP value. Players can only roll Need if they already possess (or have enough badges to immediately purchase) the piece of tier gear the token is for. Otherwise they can roll Greed. A player is limited to one progression token per week.

When an instance is no longer considered progression, as with ToC, its tier tokens no longer receive this special treatment. Normal Need, Greed, and Supergreed rules and GP values apply. There is no longer any limit on winning such tokens.

The various Marks of Sanctification are our current progression token.

BoE Items

If nobody rolls Need or Greed on a BoE item, characters that are present in the raid (whether in-guild or not) take precedence over Supergreed rolls for alts that are not currently present in the raid. This does not apply when a BoE item is being Needed or Greeded.

When a player wins a BoE item through any means it is totally up to them if it ends up going to one of their in-guild or out-of-guild alts. If a player auctions, trades, or otherwise sells a BoE item they won they will be kicked from the guild.

Patterns

When a pattern drops all eligible crafters in the raid can roll. Crafters who may learn the pattern immediately may roll Need; others may roll Greed. If the pattern is BoE, players may also roll Supergreed for in-guild alts who may immediately learn the pattern. Addon-generated random rolls are used to determine who wins the pattern, with Need preceding Greed and Greed preceding Supergreed. Priorities are not used and GP is not incurred. A BoE pattern will go to the guild bank rather than to a non-present alt who cannot immediately learn the pattern. Patterns cannot go to out-of-guild characters.

Some patterns may be determined to be progression patterns by the officers, typically dropping from our progression instance. If there are Need rolls on such a pattern, the winner will not be determined by random roll, but rather by availability. This is to make sure it is as easy as possible for our guild members to get the pattern created. We are lucky that we finally have a fairly decent mechanic for unambiguously determining availability. Availability is determined by the highest EP (not priority).

Out-of-Guild Characters

Some players have alts that are not in Dev Null. These out-of-guild alts can still raid with us with the permission of the raid leader. Unlike in-guild characters these alts will not accrue EP with each boss kill and wipe; instead, they will be awarded EP in a lump sum at the end of the raid. It is the out-of-guild alt's responsibility to check with the officers and make sure this manual award takes place. No adjustments will be made later than the end of the raid.

Out-of-guild alts may only Supergreed on loot since we are unable to properly track their priority. Patterns cannot go to out-of-guild alts.

Bank Items

Sometimes the guild bank will contain valuable BoE gear or, more typically, crafting materials. Such items can be purchased for their Greed GP value.

Web Interface

We no longer update our EPGP standings on their website. If you want to look at the guild's EPGP priorities download the epgp addon.

Our Configuration (Gory Details)

Plugin Configuration

When you install epgp_lootmaster you will want to configure it.

EVERYONE will want to check the "Listen for incoming monitor updates" checkbox and set the "Only receive for equal or higher..." drop-down to "Epic"; this should permit you to see the same interface the lootmaster sees with all incoming rolls once you have made your own selection.

OFFICERS will want to configure the selection buttons we use for handling loot. Set the "Amount of buttons to display" to 3.
  • Button 1 text should be 'Need' with a default GP setting of 100% and a fallback of Mainspec. Note you must include the % symbol.
  • Button 2 text should be 'Greed' with a default GP setting of 50% and a fallback of Offspec. Note you must include the % symbol.
  • Button 3 text should be 'Supergreed' with a default GP setting of 0 and a fallback of Minor Upgrade. Note there is no % symbol.

OFFICERS will also want to: Set a 30 second timeout. Set a 50% decay cost (make sure you include the "%" symbol).  Check "Only accept first candidate response for each item." Check "Send outgoing monitor updates" and set the "Only send for equal or higher..." drop-down to "Epic".

OFFICERS will also want to configure the epgp addon: Send announcements of EPGP actions to the Officer channel instead of the default Guild channel. On the "Boss" tab, enable automatic boss tracking to pop up a dialog when bosses are killed prompting for EP awards.
