Talents

Mindbender

Mindbender is vastly superior to From Darkness, Comes Light for Disc and will be your main mana regen cooldown. Use it all the time.

Divine Insight vs Power Infusion

Divine Insight is better for tank healing and other situational uses, and Power Infusion is good for raid healing; i.e. when you are doing a lot of Prayer of Healing spam.

As far as level 90 talents go, you can get good returns from all three if you use them on cooldown and people are positioned properly. As far as ease of use and average value in all situations, Cascade is the best choice, followed closely by Halo. Divine Star lags behind because it requires people to stand in a line.

Glyphs

Prayer of Mending is the only really good glyph. Everything else is situational and can be chosen according to your own tastes.

Stats

Spirit > Intellect > Mastery > Crit >= Haste

  • Spirit: Discipline priests (and healers in general) need a lot of spirit to last through long raid boss fights. Discipline also benefits again from spirit because, due to Rapture, you gain mana equal to 150% of your spirit each time your Power Word: Shield is completely absorbed. Rapture has a cooldown of 12 sec. You will want to try to time it so one of your shields is absorbed about every 12-15 sec.
  • Mastery: Mastery increases the amount absorbed by your absorb spells. This includes Power Word: Shield, Divine Aegis, and Spirit Shell.
  • Crit: Valuable not only because of critical heals, but also because your crits proc Divine Aegis. Using Inner Focus on cooldown is a good way to guarantee crits and strong Divine Aegis procs.
  • Haste: Disc doesn't really cast many spells aside from PoH, so haste is of minimal benefit. It still helps, but you won't get as much use from it as Holy or other healing classes would.

Tank Healing

Shield the tank with Power Word: Shield. Use Penance on cooldown. Use Inner Focus + Greater Heal on cooldown. Use Cascade if you have it and Prayer of Mending on cooldown. Fill it with Heal if the incoming damage is low enough, or Greater Heal if you need to. Keep Grace up on the tank (from your direct heals) to increase the healing you do by 30%. Renew is fine too, but don't worry about 100% uptime, since our Renew is not nearly as strong as Holy's.

Binding Heal is also possible if you are taking damage as well. It's a quick cast but fairly high mana cost.

Raid Healing

Discipline doesn't have many raid heals compared to other classes, but we can still be effective since Prayer of Healing automatically procs Divine Aegis, even if it doesn't crit. Divine Aegis places an absorb shield on the target equal to 30% of the amount healed.

Generally, you will be spamming Prayer of Healing on low-health targets, and casting Prayer of Mending and Cascade (or Halo or Divine Star) on cooldown. You can add Penance to the rotation as well.

Other Spells

  • Spirit Shell: On a 1 minute cooldown, Spirit Shell converts all of your heals for the next 15 seconds into absorbs. This is great during a low damage phase right before a high damage phase, or during any point where you've caught up in healing and want to pre-shield incoming damage. It is not recommended to use on cooldown, only when the fight allows for it. Note you may have to cancel it early if someone requires emergency healing.
  • Atonement: Atonement is an optional feature of Discipline. Each time you cast Holy Fire, Smite, or offensive Penance, you heal a nearby ally for 100% of the damage caused and gain a stack of Evangelism (up to 5). Evangelism increasing the damage done by these spells and reduces their mana cost. Casting Archangel consumes the stacks and increases your healing done by 5% per stack for 18 sec.
